Dramatic Interpretation: In the dramatic interpretation event, you memorize a passage in Latin and perform it, with dramatic voice and gesture, acting out the story as you tell it in Latin. All of the dramatic interpretation passages can be found at the following link. (Keep in mind that boys and girls must memorize separate passages, and each level of Latin must memorize a different passage. For example, if you are a girl and you are in Latin II, then you want to scroll down and find the passage marked Level II - Girls.) http://www.njcl.org/uploads/files/ConvContest/Creative/DramaticInterp2015.pdf

Latin Oratory: This event is similar to dramatic interpretation, except that you memorize a passage, usually excerpted from a speech from a Roman orator such as Cicero, and deliver it in proper Roman oratorial form. Rather than acting out a story, imagine that you are standing on the rostra in the Roman forum, delivering a speech to the Roman people. All of the Latin oratory passages can be found at the following link. (Keep in mind that different levels of Latin must memorize separate passages, although boys and girls memorize the same passages. For example, if you are a boy or a girl and in Latin II, you want to scroll down and find the passage marked Latin II. Also bear in mind that if you are Latin III or higher, than you should memorize the passage marked Advanced Level.) http://www.njcl.org/uploads/files/ConvContest/Creative/LatinOratory2015.pdf

Costume Contest: In the costume contest, you create a costume before convention on a predetermined mythological or historical figure. At convention, you will present your costume and briefly describe how it was made and how it represents the character you are attempting to portray. This year, girls will be dressing up as Circe, the boys as Phaethon, and couples (boy/girl pairs) as Hephaestus and Aphrodite. Another category, Authentic Roman Dress, gives an award to the contestant who creates a costume that is the most authentically Roman.
